In this 7-week class Dr. Bauerfeld will provide a broad overview of effective parenting skills and the theories behind them as well as a forum for discussion of issues relevant to participants*. Time is devoted in each session to active practice of the skills and discussion of how to apply them in various situations. By using these skills parents can:

  • Manage worry and anxiety
  • Improve relationships with children
  • Develop a balanced relationship with the Digital World
  • Improve emotion regulation/reduce meltdowns
  • Enhance cooperation
  • Foster autonomy and self-esteem
  • Manage learning challenges
  • Manage sibling issues

Sessions will cover

  • Overview of the principles underlying secure attachment and healthy child development
  • Overview of the neurobiology of anxiety and regulation and how these influence behavior and learning
  • Instruction and practice of skills from a variety of sources*

Session 1 – Emotion regulation, self-control and managing worry

Session 2 – Respectful communication & Engaging cooperation

Session 3 – Fostering Autonomy & Self-Esteem

Session 4 – Managing Challenging Behavior

Session 5 – Managing technology

Session 6 – Homework, chores and other common struggles

Session 7 – Sibling issues & Review

Appropriate for parents with kids of all ages and learning styles
